Committee meets over three-year plan to combat bird flu Plan includes involvement of several entities in an effort to increase better reporting of cases and on-schedule immunization
The High Committee for Combating Bird Flu will discuss its three-year plan during its 6 February meeting, headed by Health Minister Hatem El-Gabali. The meeting will be attended by Agriculture Minister El-Sayed Amin Abaza, Environment Minister Maged George, Local Development Minister Abdel Salam Mahgoub, and several bird flu experts. The three-year plan was designed by the General Authority for Veterinary Services and the Animal Health Research Institute. The discussion will includes defining the entities involved in the plan, which include the ministry of agriculture, interior ministry, farm owners, veterinary medicine personnel, local departments and the poultry production control laboratories, according to Minister Abaza. "The strategy for combating bird flu needs to include a concrete action schedule," Abasa told the Ahram Arabic Portal. Moreover, the proposed plan also includes forcing farm owners to dispose of dead birds daily by burning, burial, or compost; immediately report any infection cases; and inform doctors at veterinary unit of the immunization schedule so that they can follow up on it. The planincludes a focus on immunization in 16 governorates that are known for having high infection rates or a busy poultry industry.
