Highlights on three big winners of the fashion awards in NYC Johnny Depp, the Olsen twins and Joseph Altazurra, winners of fashion awards in New York City, deserve a bit of attention for their influential style
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards celebrated fifty years of fashion on Monday. The awards were held at the splendid theatre of Alice Tully Hall in the Big Apple. Astonishingly, for many of the winners it was also their first time to even attend the awards. What was more astonishing is that the Womanswear Designer of the Year award went to twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen for their label, The Row. Their loose, straight and lengthy designs impressed the fashion world and gave one of the most dazzling moments of the entire CFDA Awards. Olsen twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have always been fashion pioneers, dedicating a great deal of their attention to the fashion industry. The signature of their fashion creations, such as their label, The Row, as well as the Elizabeth and James, Olsenboye and Style Mint collections signature have always been innovative, controversial and show off bizarre material. Imagine a loose bohemian air, based on silks, lace, fur or plated with metal pieces. To be clearer, “extremist” is the key word forMary-Kate and Ashley Olsen designs, which is what makes them stand out. Pioneer risk-takers, they established their sense of uniqueness in fashion and well deserve the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award. Kate told ELLE magazine before the ceremony: “It's just nice to be nominated in a category with people we respect.” Joseph Altazurra The Swarovski Womenswear Award went to American-based French fashion designer, Joseph Altuzarra, who arrived with Kate Boswoth. Joseph Altuzarra's art history studies are reflected in his sensational, artistic designs. He definitely flourished after leaving the house of Givenchy and generated his own buzz. Kate Bosworth wore Joseph Althuzarra's vivid print. The designer layered the print, heavily, with metal embellishments. Only Kate's petit figure could pull off side-cut waist from his fall 201 2collection. Apparently Kate Bosworth was his lucky charm for the night. Althuzarra has every reason to celebrate his Swarovski Award for Emerging Talents in Womenswear. Another vividly coloured dress that stole the attention in the CFDA Fashion Awards was by Marc Jacobs from the Resort 2013, worn by the iconic and brilliant Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue, Anna Wintour. Absolutely flawless, as usual. Johnny Depp in the house? This isn't the first time that Johnny Depp's odd tune to the world has caught the attention and "fashion icon" title. With a range from rather casual, slightly grungy jeans, long-sleeved shirts or fitted T's, to unique Armani suits, he always, always goes for comfort. He riddles his neck and arms with a variety of woven-style bracelets, chains, tatoos, and, not to mention, funky glasses. His absence was unfortunate and very awkward. Many raised their eyebrows; murmuring that he had spent the day before at the MTV awards. However, a Mr. Waters took the award on Johnny Depp's behalf and quipped “Can anybody but Johnny Depp wear coloured railroad handkerchiefs hooked through his belt loops without the fear of the sexual hankie code?” In fact, the presenters riddled the night with true New York City, Woody-Allenish humour. By all means, the CFDA Fashion Awards for 2012 was magical with celebrities perfectly dressed from head to toe and creative designers that truly deserve to go home with such acknowledgment. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Sama Eissa, after receiving her BA in Politics, pursued her passion for fashion.
