Thursday 31 May ‘Laugh it off' comedy night at Rawabet Theatre at 7pm Ramez Youssef, Haitham Awad, Mo'love, Mohamed Morgan and other stand up comedians take part in this uncensored night with both English and Arabic performances. 2 Hussein El-Meamar Street, off Mahmoud Bassiouni Street, next to Townhouse Gallery, Downtown, Cairo Omar Khairat music concert at Cairo Opera House at 8pm Egyptian musical legend Omar Khairat takes to the Opera House stage again on piano with several musicians. Main Hall, Cairo Opera House, Zamalek, Cairo Two-act opera ‘The Medium' at El-Gomhouria Theatre at 8pm The Medium is a short, dramatic opera in two acts with words and music by Gian Carlo Menotti. The opera will be performed to a piano accompaniment. El-Gomhouria Theatre, 12 El-Gomhouria Street, Downtown, Cairo. Yosra El-Hawary at Kotob Khan Bookstore at 8pm Rising star Yousra El-Hawary sings and plays the accordion in Maadi. Her music is based on simple lyrics and catchy musical styling that many can relate to. She is the artist behind the viral music video of El-Soor filmed by the famous Downtown walls. Read more about El-Hawary here. 3A El-La Selky Road, New Maadi, Cairo Maryam album launch at French Culture Centre in Alexandria at 8pm Maryam takes her new album ‘Mesh Baghany' (I'm not singing) to Alexandria after launching in Cairo earlier this month. Her music includes a mix of her originals and old Arabic resistance song covers. 30 El-Naby Daniel Street, Alexandria Friday 1 June The Cassettes, Shady Ahmed and Dina El-Wadidi in Bikya Bookstore Maadi at 7.30pm In the three-day celebration of the new branch's opening, Bikya bring a mix of artists for the show. On Thursday, they hosted Grey Grass, Ahmed Safi El-Din and Hany Mustafa. On Saturday Bikya Maadi will host various performers such as Abu Mariam, Adam Awad along with stand up comedy. Road 9, Maadi, Cairo Tamer Abu Ghazala concert at Jesuits Cultural Centre in Alexandria at 8pm Abu Ghazala sings and plays oud with his music inspired by traditional poetry from the region. Most of his songs are in Palestinian and Egyptian dialect. Shadi El-Husseiny (piano), Khyam Allami (drums) and Mahmoud Waly (bass) will also be performing. 298 Port Said Street, Cleopatra, Alexandria Yehia Khalil Band in Cairo Opera House at 8pm One of the most established jazz musicians in Egypt, Yehia Khalil brings his percussion beats and fellow musicians to the Opera House's Small Hall. Small Hall, Cairo Opera House, Zamalek, Cairo “Elections” group exhibition in Darb 1718 Whether the artists are idealists, activists, reformists or anything else, the monumental moment of the elections touches people in a way that brings about intense creativity. Darb 1718 hosts this group exhibition portraying just that. Hind Samir, Ahmed Sabry, Hani Rashed, Sabah Naeem, Marwa Adel, Ali Abdel Mohsen, Ahmed El-Shaer, Atef Ahmed, Amira Parree, Hala Abu Shady, Neven Emam are all on show. Saturday 2 June El-Fan Midan (Art is a Square) in Abdeen Square at 1pm After cancelling the May event in mourning of after deadly clashes in Abbasiya, the Coalition for Independent Culture holds its monthly event El-Fan Midan reclaiming public space use for different art forms. Events usually include a line up of musicians, painting, among other art forms. It takes place in several squares in other governorates. Abdeen Square, Downtown Cairo Symphonic concert at the Cairo Opera House at 8pm Cairo Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ahmed El-Saedi will perform Ravel's Rhapsodie Espagnole and Brahms' Symphony No 3. Also, Amira Hamed, the soloist of the evening, will perform Debussy's Danses sacrée et profane for Harp and Orchestra. Main Hall, Cairo Opera House, Zamalek, Cairo “Gallery Collection” exhibition at Al-Masar Gallery The exhibition showcases a fine selection from exhibitions the gallery has held over the past four years, including works by the stars of 20thcentury Egyptian modern art, pioneers of the third, fourth and fifth generations, and the young artists of today. On display will be works by Adel El-Siwi, Ahmed Fouad Selim, Essam Marouf, Georges Bahgory, Hamdi Attia, Ibrahim El-Dessouki, Mahmoud Abdullah, Sami Aboul Azm, Sami Abdul Azm, Kareem El-Qurity, Leila Ezzet, Omar El-Nagdy and others. Ahmed Shawky Museum, 6 Ahmed Shawki Street, Corniche El-Nil, Giza Opening of ‘The Holy Family in Egypt' exhibition at Picasso Gallery at 7pm The exhibition “The Holy Family in Egypt,” to be shown starting Sunday in the Picasso Gallery in Zamalek, will include a selection of works by contemporary artists, including Helmy Eltony, Mohamed Thabet, Mohamed Haji, Mostafa El-Razzaz, Mostafa Rahmy, Nathan Doss, Omar El-Fayoumy, Ramadan Ibrahim, Reda Abdel Rahman, Ragheb Ayad, Farid Fadel, Georges Bahgoury and Effat Hosny, among others. 30 Hassan Assem Street, from Brazil Street, Zamalek, Cairo ‘Carry on' exhibition at Artellewa Gallery This is the exhibition for the Arab Collaboration Project that brought together six artists and writers from countries of the Arab uprisings in Cairo to collaboratively develop a creative project over a 10-week residency.
