Published in Ahram Online on 10 - 05 - 2021

Egypt is expected to see a steady drop in temperature countrywide during the three days of the Islamic holy feast of Eid Al-Fitr, set to start Thursday, and the three days preceding it, according to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA).
Egypt witnessed a heatwave over the past several days, with the mercury hitting 42 degrees Celsius in Cairo on Wednesday.
From Monday to Saturday, warm weather is forecast in Greater Cairo and the Nile Delta, while Upper Egypt, the north coast, and Sinai will see extremely hot weather during the daytime. The weather will cool off during the nighttime, the EMA said.
Greater Cairo and the Nile Delta cities are expected to see highs ranging from 35 to 32 degrees Celsius and lows ranging from 20 to 18 degrees.
Egypt's northern coast and central Sinai will witness highs ranging from 35 to 28 degrees and lows ranging from 19 to 16 degrees.
South Sinai and the Red Sea Mountains will see highs of 38 to 36 degrees and lows of 26 to 25 degrees, the EMA said.
Northern Upper Egypt will see highs ranging from 39 to 34 degrees and lows ranging from 26 to 21 degrees.
The weather will be slightly warmer in southern Upper Egypt in the morning with highs of 44 to 40 degrees, turning cooler at night with lows of 28 to 25 degrees.
Light rains may fall on some parts of southern Upper Egypt, Sinai, and the Red sea Mountains intermittently.
Winds are predicted over parts of Greater Cairo and northern Upper Egypt.
The Egyptian cabinet added an additional two days to the Eid Al-Fitr holiday this year, starting from 12 May till Sunday 16 May.
The three-day annual holiday marks the end of the month of Ramadan and is celebrated by Muslims worldwide.
Egypt has introduced a new set of anti-coronavirus measures during the Islamic feast, which involve shutting public parks and beaches in order to contain the current rise in COVID-19 infections.
