Ittihad Jeddah criticises Egypt's Abd-Rabou for substitution outburst Player's angry reaction at being substituted during Ittihad's match against Al-Qadisiyah provokes criticism from management, coach unruffled
The management of Ittihad Jeddah has criticised the club's Egyptian midfielder Hosni Abd-Rabou for his angry reaction at being substituted during Sunday's 1-0 victory over Al-Qadisiyah in the Saudi league, Saudi newspaper Al-Watan revealed on Tuesday. After being replaced for the second consecutive match by coach Raul Caneda, the Pharaohs star did not shake the hand of his replacement Ayman Fadel and pushed an advertising hoarding in anger on his way to the dugout. “The club's management held meetings with Abd-Rabou to put an urgent end to the dispute between him and his coach,” said Al-Watan. “The player was reprimanded for his improper behaviour.” However, Caneda refused to blame the international midfielder. “From my point of view players need the chance to prove themselves. Seeing Abd-Rabou venting his frustration after being replaced is normal as he wants to remain on the pitch,” the coach was quoted as saying by Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadh. Abd-Rabou, 27, joined Ittihad on loan from Egyptian side Ismaily following the Port Said disaster which killed 74 fans killed at a match between Masry and Ahly on 1 February.
