Former chief of general staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Lt. General Sami Anan was released from detention on Sunday. Anan's secretary Mostafa El-Shall tweeted a photo with him in Cairo on Sunday evening. Anan was arrested in January 2018 and was referred to military prosecution over accusations including inciting against the army and forgery, two days after he announced his intention to run in Egypt's presidential elections.
