Egypt Olympic coach promises better team performances Pharaohs coach Hany Ramzy says players were adversely impacted by Port Said tragedy and subsequent suspension of league activity
Following a 1-1 draw between the Egyptian and Romanian Olympic teams in a Tuesday friendly in Dubai, Pharaohs coach Hany Ramzy promised better performances in upcoming matches. “The team was really affected by the Port Said disaster, especially after it led to the suspension of league activities,” Ramzy said at a post-match press conference. All Egyptian football activities have been suspended since 1 February, when at least 74 fans were killed and hundreds injured in Port Said Stadium following a match between local sides Ahly and Masry. “I appreciate my squad's high performance levels, even though they didn't train before the UAE trip,” Ramzy said. The young Pharaohs will take on Uzbekistan in a friendly on Friday amid ongoing preparations for the 2012 London Olympic Games. “The players are moving forward,” said Ramzy. “I'm sure they'll be better in upcoming matches.” (For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online Sports on Twitter:@AO_Sports) http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/35144.aspx
