'We now play more attacking football': Egypt boss Aguirre
Published in Ahram Online on 16 - 11 - 2018

Egypt coach Javier Aguirre boasted of his record in four matches in charge of the team, highlighting their attacking efficiency following Friday's late 3-2 victory over Tunisia in an African Cup of Nations qualifier in Alexandria.
Under his guidance, Egypt crushed Niger 6-0 and defeated eSwatini 4-1 and 2-0 home and away respectively to seal passage to next year's Nations Cup finals in Cameroon with two games to spare in Group J.
They also showed an attacking flair in Friday's win over Tunisia, which came courtesy of a stoppage-time goal from Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.
"We played four matches in which we scored 15 times and conceded only 4 goals. This is an evidence of how strong our team is," Aguirre told the post-match news conference.
"We adopt now more offensive tactics," he added, having been lauded by many of the critics who often questioned the conservative tactics of his predecessor Hector Cuper.
"We started the game in a very good way but we conceded a goal because of a mistake. I spoke to the players and asked them to stay focused. We tackled the mistakes in the break and we won," he said.
Egypt and Tunisia are now both at 12 points in a group that also includes Niger and eSwatini who lost all hopes to qualify to the Cameroon finals.
However, Egypt still sit second in Group J behind Tunisia who are favorites to finish on top, given their better head-to-head record virtue of the away goals they scored against the Pharaohs. Tunisia beat Egypt 1-0 in their opening qualifier in June 2017.
