Egypt easily beat Swaziland (currently named eSwatini) 2-0 on Tuesday in the fourth round of the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, securing a place in the tournament's finals to be hosted in Cameroon in June 2019.
Ahmed Hegazy and Marwan Mohsen scored for Egypt at the 19th and 53rd minutes. The Egyptian team, under the Mexican coach Javier Aguirre, now has nine points collected from four games. After Tunisia beat Niger 2-1, the Pharaohs qualified officially to the final tournament, regardless of the results of the remaining two rounds.
Aguirre started the match with a different squad, including Ahmed Hegazy, Baher Mohamady, Ayman Ashraf, and Ahmed Mohamady in the defence line. In the midfield, Mohamed El-Neny played alongside Tarek Hamed, replacing Aly Ghazal. Amr Warda, Mahmoud Trezeguet played as wingers, while Hussein Al-Shahat served as a replacement for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah. Marwan Mohsen was on the tip of the spear.
The Egyptian football team managed to score “half a dozen goals” against Swaziland after the Pharaohs secured two consecutive rounds of the AFCON qualifiers, scoring 4-1 in the first leg, and 2-0 in the second leg.
In the first leg, Salah broke the record of former Egyptian player Hossam Hassan in terms of the number of goals scored in the history of Egypt during the African Nations Cup qualifiers, after his 13th goal.
