Egypt's Masry were denied a precious win in Mozambique after conceding a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with UD Songo on Sunday but they still moved within touching distance of a place in the African Confederation Cup quarter-finals. Masry looked on course for a win which would have lifted them to the last eight with one match to spare in Group B after winger Abdel-Latif Grendo lashed home from close range in the 76th minute. However, Jimmy Ukonde headed home with eight minutes remaining but the draw did Songo no favours as they lost any hopes of making it to the knockout stage. Masry are on top of the group with nine points, two ahead of Morocco's Renaissance de Berkane who face Sudanese giants Al-Hilal (three points) later in the day. Should Berkane avoid a defeat against Al-Hilal later in the day, Masry will ensure their progress to the next round. Chances were few and far between but Masry had the upper hand, wasting a chance to go ahead on the stroke of halftime when Grendo was picked out unmarked, only to side-foot the ball wide. Grendo made amends in the 76th minute, blasting home after a flick from lively winger Eslam Eissa. But Songo netted a late equaliser when Ukonde cut ahead of his marker and headed home after the Masry keeper got a hand to it.
