Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi will inaugurate on Tuesday a number of new electricity mega projects in the country, including the Gabal El-Zeit wind farm, which is considered the largest in the world, according to the Egyptian presidency. Launched in 2015 in the Red Sea governorate, the Gabal El-Zeit wind farm will have a total of 300 wind turbines with an overall capacity of 580 megawatts. Sisi will also inaugurate three electricity power plants constructed by German company Siemens in the new administrative capital, Beni Sweif and Burlus. The new power plants will produce 14.4 gigawatts, boosting Egypt's power generation by 50 percent. Siemens signed an 8 billion-euro ($9.4 billion) deal in June 2017 to supply gas and wind power plants to Egypt. Egypt also said earlier this month that construction on its first nuclear power plant, which will be built by Russia, will begin in the next two to two-and-a-half years. The 4,800-megawatt plant at Dabaa in should be up and running by 2026, according to a spokesman for the energy and electricity ministry. Egypt has set a goal of obtaining 20 percent of its power from renewable resources by 2022, and 42 percent of its electricity from renewables by 2025.
