Nine Egyptian start-ups fly in UK for London Tech Week to tap new investment opportunities
Published in Ahram Online on 20 - 06 - 2018

Nine Egyptian start-up companies have travelled to London to present their ideas in health, finance, engineering, and service industries in an aim to connect with the global entrepreneurship scene at London Tech Week, the UK Embassy in Cairo said on Wednesday.
The embassy said that the participation by the Egyptian companies is supported by the embassy's UK-funded Start Egypt Programme, which was launched in November 2017 in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Flat6Labs.
The embassy describes the GBP 2 million(around EGP 47 million) Start Egypt programme as aiming to "inspire and support thousands of Egyptian entrepreneurs through a number of entrepreneurial development opportunities, awareness activities and a unique incubation programme."
The nine travelling Flat6labs start-ups are Chefaa, Weelo, Mosawer, 7aweshly, Argineering, Recommendator, Couterique, Elkrem, and Pushbots.
"We launched Start Egypt because we believe in Egyptian talent, and because we know that Egyptian entrepreneurs have brilliant ideas that can benefit not only their country but the world," British Ambassador to Cairo John Casson said in the statement.
"It's great to welcome them to London, the leading tech hub in Europe, so that they can showcase these ideas in a global market."
The participation by the nine Egyptian companies comes nearly one month after Start Egypt toured Egyptian cities to track down the brightest Egyptian talents in technology in a series of road shows and female-founders workshops; which focused on providing know-how for future entrepreneurs in starting their own businesses and attracting investments.
London Tech Week is the largest free celebration of technology in Europe, bringing together 55,000 tech professionals, from early-stage start-ups to some of the biggest names in tech, including Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia.
