Bahrain police attack Shiite opposition offices Security forces in Bahrain have attacked the headquarters of the main Shiite opposition party in the capital with tear gas
Bahrain's Police forcibly broke up the Al Wefaq party's weekly meeting Friday and also used tear gas to disperse hundreds of opposition supporters attempting to protest in the island kingdom's capital. Friday's clampdown was the latest episode in 10 months of unrest between Bahrain's Sunni monarchy and an opposition movement led by the country's majority Shiites. The attack comes a day after the Interior Ministry banned Al Wefaq leaders from holding the weekly meeting. Defying government orders, Shiite clerics on Friday also held prayer services on the rubble of mosques that had been bulldozed by authorities earlier this year.
