Egyptian investigative reporter Maggie Michael, who works for the Associated Press, won an award from the Overseas Press Club (OPC) of America in the 2018 contest honouring the best international reporting. Michael won the OPC's Joe and Laurie Dine Award for best international reporting dealing with human rights for her coverage of abuses in Yemen. The announcement that she won the award was made last month, but the award presentation will be held on Thursday at the OPC annual dinner in New York. The judges hailed Michael's work, saying she “took great personal risks, with her video colleague, driver and fixers.” Her reporting included the starvation of children and the growing rate of child marriages in the war-torn country. “Michael and her team documented all of this and more in a chilling package that included charts, video and compelling graphics,” the judges said. Two other AP journalists also earned OPC awards for their reporting on the exodus of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar and the fall of the Daesh terrorist group in Iraq's Mosul. The OPC awards will be presented at a gala dinner in New York on Thursday 26 April.
