Art Alert: Symposium on the Art and Liberty group at Cairo's Townhouse Gallery

A one-day symposium will feature a series of talks on Egypt's historic Art and Liberty group (Art et Liberté) held at Townhouse Factory space on 13 April.
The programme is spearheaded by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, and will include a keynote lecture by Bardaouil, in addition to two roundtable sessions that feature other speakers.
Bardaouil and Fellrath are both curators and co-founders of Art Reoriented, which is behind the innternationaly touring exhibition Art et Liberté: Rupture, War, and Surrealsim in Egypt (1938 - 1948).
Since it's debut in October 2016, the exhibition was shown at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofíain in Madrid, the Kunstsammlung K20 in Düsseldorf, and the Tate Liverpool in the UK. The exhibition's last stop will be in Stockholm at the Moderna Museet where it will run between 28 April and 12 August.
Two publications will be made available during the Symposium including the exhibition catalogue of Art et Liberté: Rupture, War, and Surrealism in Egypt (1938 - 1948) and an academic monograph
titled Surrealism in Egypt: Modernism and the Art and Liberty Group, that has won the 2017 Modernist Studies Association Book Prize.
