Uganda name Frenchman Desabre as new coach
Published in Ahram Online on 28 - 12 - 2017

The Uganda Football Federation has unveiled on Thursday Frenchman Sebastien Desabre as the new coach for Uganda National team, succeeding to Moses Basena who acted as interim following the departure of Milutin Sredojevic last July.
The 41-year old arrived in Kampala on Thursday after terminating his contract with Egyptian side Ismaily, and signed a three-year contract.
No final details of Desabre's contract with Uganda have been disclosed.
"I am happy to be in Uganda to coach the team. I am ready for the challenge to make millions of Ugandans happy," he told a presser.
"I have worked for a long time in Africa and I know much of African football. I am ready to serve the interests of football in Uganda," he added.
FUFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Edgar Watson who attended the ceremony revealed that Desabre was selected from a list of 93 applicants and that he "will supervise all the national development teams (U-23, U-20 and U-17)."
Desabre has forged a reputation in Africa in recent years as he won trophies with Recreativo do Libolo in Angola, Coton Sport in Cameroon, Esperance in Tunisia, Asec in Ivory Coast and Wydad in Morocco.
He left Wydad Casablanca in January 2017 after leading them to the Champions League semi-final before taking charge of Ismaily.
The Frenchman has molded Ismaily into a solid and compact team since his arrival in July, with the club making an impressive start to the season as they chase a fourth league title and their first since 2002.
Uganda are seeking to build upon their recent success as they has had an impressive year.
The Cranes reached the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals for the first time since 1978 and finished second in the 2018 World Cup qualifying group behind winners Egypt.
