Uganda's assistant coaches Moses Basena and Fred Kajoba were appointed on Monday as interim coaches for the Cranes ahead of the anticipated matches against Egypt in 2018 World Cup qualifiers. "As FUFA [officials and former players], we sat as a family and decided that Moses Basena and Fred Kajoba should an interim basis carry on until after the Egypt matches home and away," the country's football association president Moses Magogo was quoted as saying by kawowo.com. "We shall give them all the due support they deserve," he added. Uganda will host the Pharaohs on 31 August in Kampala before meeting again in Egypt on 5 September. The local duo Basena and Kajoba had worked as assistants for Serbian coach Milutin ‘Micho' Sredojevich, who announced his departure from his post on Saturday after failing to get his late financial dues. The first test for the Ugandan team under the new interim coaches will be against Rwanda in the 2018 African Cup of Nations qualifiers on August 11 and 18. “I was key in the recruitment of coach Micho. We have a lost a good coach. On record, he remains one of the least paid coaches on the African continent. As a team, we have lost a star player, but the team has to continue,” Magogo concluded. In a bid to make their first World Cup appearance since 1990, Egypt will be eyeing victories against second-placed Uganda, both home and away, as the Egyptians are currently at the top of Group E.
