The United Arab Emirates said Wednesday it was setting up a 10 billion dirham (US$2.7 billion) fund to help pay debts of some low-income citizens, state news agency WAM said. The agency also reported that President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan ordered the doubling of salaries of some state employees in the judiciary, health and education sectors from January 2012 to mark the 40th anniversary of the founding of the UAE. The salary increases will consist of a 35-45 per cent increase basic salary increase for public sector employees, a special allowance of 100 per cent of basic salary for members of the judiciary authority, and a technical allowance of 100 per cent for employees in the health and education sectors.
