Published in Ahram Online on 07 - 09 - 2017

Forbes Middle East has ranked Egyptian singer Amr Diab first on its list of Top 100 Arab Celebrities, with Egyptian actor Adel Emam coming sixth.
The rankings are the first such list of its kind by Forbes, and aim to judge the popularity and influence of actors, singers and television personalities from across the region, with a particular eye on their social media reach.
Over 40 Egyptian celebrities made the list, among them: actors Ahmed Helmy (11th), Ahmed El Sakka (17th) and Mohamed Sobhy (30th); singers Tamer Hosny (12th), Sherine Abdel Wahab (13th), Mohamed Hamaky (14th), Amal Maher (21st) and Mohamed Mounir (26th); and composer Hassan El Shafei (25th).
Also featured are big names like actors Kareem Abdel Aziz, Ghada Abdel Razek, Mohamed Ramadan, Mohamed Henedy, Amr Waked, Asser Yassin, Yosra El Lozy; and singers Angham, Ramy Sabry, and Haim.
Lebanese superstar Nancy Ajram came second on the list, while Tunisian actress Hend Sabry, a popular face on Egyptian television screens, ranked 27th.
According to the Forbes, the list was compiled based on the celebrity's influence in the digital age and their reach on social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube "where celebrities can connect directly with their consumers, and fans can build relationships with their idols that need never switch off."
