The alternative Arabic rock band Malaaz is set to perform at El Sawy Culturewheel in Zamalek on 6 July. The Egyptian band Malaaz (Refuge) was formed in 2014 by guitarist, composer and lyricist Mohamed Abdelrazik, and lead guitarist Amr Beshr, who both shared a passion for rock and metal music. The pair met in 2012, when Abdelrazik introduced Beshr to another band with a similar background. The two were eventually joined by vocalist Maged Amer and they began to rehearse on a regular basis, along with their former drummer. In 2014, bassist Moataz El Nashar joined the band, and in early 2015, drummer AJ El-Gohary came to complete the current lineup. The band aims to create alternative rock music that is accessible to the public, regardless of their musical background and taste.
