Nigerian League's goal machine Aneke joins the Super Eagles Nigerian Premier League top scorer Jude Aneke gets his first call-up to the Nigerian national team, in place of injured Peter Odemwingie
Kaduna's forward Jude Aneke received on Tuesday his first call-up to the Super Eagles, who are preparing for two friendly internationalgames against Botswana and Zambia. The 21-year-old forward will replace West Bromwich Albion forward Peter Odemwingie, who is suffering from a foot injury. “I spoke with Osaze yesterday and he told me he did not feature for his club in their last game because he was injured and would not be fit in time for these games. So I decided to call up Jude Aneke,” Nigerian coach Stephan Keshi was quoted as saying by KickOff website. Aneke produced a string of strong performances in the Nigerian Premier League this season and he set a new record in the Nigerian League when he scored his 20th goal last week to hold the record of the highest number of goals ever scored in a single season in the history of the domestic league. “He is the highest goalscorer in the Nigerian League, and he has scored a record 20 goals, which is impressive, so he deserves to be in the national team.” Keshi added. Several reports linked Aneke to a move to the Belgium side Genk in the winter transfer window.
