Squash: Egypt's El-Shorbagy eyes first PSA world final as El-Welily and El-Sherbini face off
Published in Ahram Online on 01 - 03 - 2017

Egypt's Marwan El-Shorbagy will make his first appearance in a PSA World Series tournament final late Wednesday when he takes on Gregory Gaultier of France at the 2017 Windy City Open in Chicago, USA.
Marwan defeated fellow Egyptian Ali Farag in the semifinals after ousting his brother Mohamed El-Shorbagy in an emotional quarterfinal.
“I've had some good wins so far to reach the final but I want to keep it going. I really want that title and I'll give it everything that I have tomorrow,” the finalist said after the semifinal win.
The Frenchman won't be an easy hunt as the world no. 3, who brings memories of his best performances and title win at the 2014 tournament.
“I'm feeling like I'm in great shape and I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I've been playing well all week and haven't played many long games so there's still a lot left in the tank,” Gaultier said.
Gaultier brilliantly defeated Spaniard Borja Golan 3-0 after the latter's impressive victory over world champion Karim Abdel-Gawad.
2015 and 2016 Women's champion Raneem El Welily
In the Women's final, 2015 and 2016 champion Raneem El-Welily of Egypt will face fellow countrywoman, world no. 1 Nour El-Sherbini, in a repeat of the 2016 final.
“I love it here in Chicago. It's amazing to be in the final for a fourth time – there's no pressure tomorrow but it would be fantastic to win here for the third time,” the 21-year-old El-Welily said.
El-Welily ousted Egypt's Nourhan Gohar 3-0 in the semis after passing Annie Au of Hong Kong.
El-Sherbini beat out Camille Serme of France in the semis after passing Nicol David of Malaysia.
“There are no expectations for me tomorrow – I'll do my best to win. I'm happy to be back in the final, I love playing here and I'm really happy that it's going to be an all-Egyptian final,” El-Sherbini said.
