Egypt's players ratings vs Cameroon: Salah shines despite defeat
Published in Ahram Online on 03 - 02 - 2018

Essam El-Hadary (6.5): Conceding twice in the final game, the veteran keeper failed to lift Egypt to the trophy. He seemed less imposing than he was in the past games and made a few poor clearances and could have punched away Moukandjo's cross before it reached Nkoulou for the equalizer.
Ahmed Elmohamady (6.5): The right-back seemed struggling with his fitness and had to sit back for most of the game. He allowed Moukandjo to cross for Nkoulou to head the equalizer.
Ahmed Hegazy (6.5): The central defender looked solid and confident in the area in the first half despite reports that he was suffering from an injury ahead of the match. However, his form faded in the second half and he was to blame for the equalizer as Nkoulou towered above him to powerfully head home. He also failed to make up for Gabr's mistake that led to the winner.
Ali Gabr (6.5): Like Hegazy, he lost his composure in the second half and failed to counter many attacks from the Cameroonians. He was guilty of allowing Aboubakar to skip him and score the winner late in the second half.
Ahmed Fathi (7): Nicknamed The Joker because of his versatility, he excelled as usual in his unusual left-back position, stopping the threat of gifted winger Christian Bassagog who had to move to the opposite flank in the second half. However, he didn't provide any help for forwards.
Tarek Hamed (7.5): He was energetic in the first half, making several important challenges and providing a great help for right-back Elmohamady to counter Moukandjo. But like most of his teammates, he lost his pace and stamina in the second half and was outrun by opposing forwards.
Mohamed Elneny (7.5): Returning from injury, he seemed not fully fit. However, he scored Egypt's goal from an acute angle after a superb three-man move that he started.
Abdallah El-Said (6.5): He had an early chance to score after being set up by Salah in the area but his shot was blocked by the keeper. His attacking contribution was minimal as he had only one attempt in the second half and lost a couple of balls in midfield that allowed Cameroon to launch dangerous raids.
Mahmoud Trezeguet (6.5): Once again, he was not as energetic as he used to be. He made several runs up and down the left flank but was neither successful in providing the needed help for Fathi nor shown any spark upfront.
Mohamed Salah (8): He was dazzling on the right flank with his mazy runs and dribbles. He almost created a goal for El-Said after two minutes with a deft first-touch pass but the latter's effort was thwarted by the keeper. He also set up Elneny for the first-half opening goal before being tightly marked in the second period. He still kept the defenders on their toes with his pressing.
Amr Warda (7.5): Starting in central attack due to the absence of Marwan Mohsen, Ahmed Hassan Kouka and Mahmoud Kahraba, Warda defied expectations to produce a vivid display upfront. He was involved in Elneny's goal and made a great contribution in defence when Cameroon piled on pressure.
Ramadan Sobhi (6.5): He came on as a substitute in the 65th minute but failed to make an impact as the team ran out of energy and focused more on giving protection to a shaky backline in the dying minutes.
