Wadi Degla coach grateful to Egyptians for blood donations Wadi Degla coach Walter Meeuws expresses his gratitude to Egyptian blood donors after recovering from a serious injury sustained in a road crash
Wadi Degla coach Walter Meeuws said on Saturday he is grateful to Egyptians after making his first public appearance since he was injured in a road crash earlier this month. The Belgian tactician underwent two surgeries after suffering internal bleeding and a vertebral dislocation following Wadi Degla's bus crash which left a dressing-room attendant dead. “I'm grateful to all Egyptians,” Meeuws, who is in his second season with the ambitious outfit, said during a news conference. “Big part of my blood is now Egyptian after many donated their blood to me. I'm looking forward to returning to normal life and leading Wadi Degla again.” Degla's opening Egyptian Premier League game against Zamalek was postponed following the deadly accident, which occurred on the Cairo-Ismailia road after the club played a friendly against Ismaily. They opened their campaign in style after beating promoted Bani Suef Telephones 2-1. “I hope I can be at the club next week to resume my work. I'm proud with what the team did in its first game,” the 60-year-old tactician added.
