Gaddafi's death a 'turning point' for Libya: Turkey Libyan strongman Moamer Gaddafi's death is a "historical turning point" for Libya, Turkey said late Thursday, promising to go on supporting the Libyan people in their nation-building process
The death of Libya's ousted leader Moamer Gaddafi is a historical turning point. A new era starts in Libya with this development," the Turkish foreign ministry said in a statement. "(Turkey) believes that the fate of the autocratic regime of Moamer Gaddafi, which lasted more than 40 years, is a painful lesson with respect to change and democratic transformation movements in the region," it said. "Turkey will continue to side with the Libyan people with every means it has and provide them every kind of support in this difficult process," the statement added. Turkey expects members of Gaddafi family and his regime's officials to surrender to justice "as soon as possible," it said. Gaddafi was killed Thursday in an assault on his hometown Sirte by fighters of the new regime.
