Zawya cinema will screen The Light between Oceans starting Wednesday 5 October. The film is a romantic period drama directed by Derek Cianfrance, based on the bestselling novel of the same name by M. L. Stedman. With a cast of multi-award winning actors—Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, and Rachel Weisz—the film tells the story of a lighthouse keeper in Western Australia and his wife who longs to have children. They rescue an infant girl adrift at sea, only to cross paths with her biological mother years later. Faced with a dilemma, the couple must make choices—dramatically affecting the future of all those involved. The Light between Oceans Premiered at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival in September, competing for the Golden Lion. Zawya launched in 2014 as Cairo's first initiative bringing art-house and alternative films to downtown Cairo's Odeon Cinema. The venue hosts talks, special events, retrospectives, film discussions and master classes, and in November will launch their annual Panorama of the European Film Festival.
