Art Alert: Palestinian documentary 'My Love Awaits Me by the Sea' to screen at Cairo's Zawya
Published in Ahram Online on 18 - 08 - 2016

Palestinian documentary My Love Awaits Me by the Sea (2013), by Palestinian filmmaker Mais Darwazah, is set to screen at Cairo's art-house cinema Zawya on Sunday 21 August as part of Zawya's Special Sunday screenings.
Darwazah's debut feature-length documentary, My Love Awaits Me by the Sea is “inspired by the artist and writer Hasan Hourani's wondrous reveries. This poetic, first-person essay chronicles filmmaker Mais Darwazah's first-ever visit to her homeland, Palestine,” reads the film synopsis on Facebook.
In this 80-minute long documentary, “Fairytale and reality are woven together to ask the question; how do you return to a place that only exists in your mind? How do you keep fighting for life when you're surrounded by so much death? How can you continue believing in a dream when the outside world lives another reality? and how can you own your version of the truth when history has taken it from you?”
Launched in March 2014, Zawya is Cairo's first initiative bringing art-house and alternative films to the screen at downtown Cairo's Odeon Cinema. Over the past months, besides regular film screenings, Zawya has hosted talks, special events, retrospectives, film discussions and master classes.
Zawya recently re-opened for another season after being on break since mid-July, resuming its Special Sunday screenings programme with the Palestinian film Love, Theft and Other Entanglements, which screened on 14 August.

Programme:

Sunday 21 August, 7.30pm

Zawya, behind Odeon Cinema, 4 Abdel Hamid Said, off Talaat Harb st. Downtown, Cairo
