Art Alert: Zawya starts new season with Lebanese film Very Big Shot
Published in Ahram Online on 27 - 09 - 2016

Downtown Cairo's art-house cinema Zawya will finally return to its regular screening programme after the Eid Al-Adha holiday, showing the award-winning Lebanese film Ketir Kebir (Very Big Shot) on 28 September.
Written and directed by Mir-Jean Bou Chaaya, this action-comedy centres on three brothers and small-time drug dealers in Beirut who decide to take one last job smuggling drugs across the border. With the help of a filmmaker, one of the brothers manipulates public opinion to ease the operation.
Very Big Shot stars Alain Saadeh, Fouad Yammine and Wissam Fares.
The film debuted in the Discovery section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival and was released in Lebanon in November 2015. It won the Golden Star award at the 15th Marrakech International Film Festival.
Very Big Shot was selected as Lebanon's entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards. It was also nominated for Best Film Award at the London Film festival, and for the Golden Gate Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival.
Launched in March 2014, Zawya is Cairo's first initiative bringing art-house and alternative films to the screen at downtown Cairo's Odeon Cinema.
The venue hosts talks, special events, retrospectives, film discussions and master classes, and in November will launch their annual Panorama of the European Film Festival.
Programme:
The film will screen starting Wednesday 28 September at 12pm, 2.30pm, 5pm, 7.30pm and 10pm
Zawya, behind Odeon Cinema, 4 Abdel Hamid Said, off Talaat Harb St, Downtown, Cairo
