Egypt will not host the African football qualifiers for 2012 Olympics Egypt has pulled out of hosting the African football qualifying matches for London 2012, citing security fears
Egypt Football Association (EFA) spokesman Azmy Megahed revealed on Monday that Egypt has withdrawn from hosting the African football qualifiers for the London 2012 Olympics, upon request of Egyptian "higher" authorities. "The Egyptian Football Association has informed the Confederation of African Football that Egypt cannot host the African qualifiers for the Olympics, following the request of the Egyptian authorities," Megahed told Ahram Online. The mini-tournament was set to be played from 26November - 10 December, which is set to coincide with the anticipated parliamentary elections, putting enormous pressure on the security forces. The Pharaohs will play in Group A with Ivory Coast, Gabon and South Africa, seeking their first qualification since Barcelona in 1992. Reports suggested that Algeria will replace Egypt as the host of the qualifiers.
