The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said on Wednesday that Nelo Vingada is a frontrunner to take over at the Egyptian national team following the sacking of Hassan Shehata. ‘'We have reached an agreement with Vingada to take charge of Egypt's senior team,” EFA spokesman Azmy Megahed told DPA. “We just need to sort out some details to complete the deal and make the official announcement.” Former Saudi Arabia and Jordan coach Vingada has a vast experience Egyptian Football, having managed Cairo giants Zamalek and Egypt's Olympic team. Zamalek won the last of their 11 league titles under his guidance in 2004 but Vingada failed to replicate that success when he was named as the Olympic team's few months later as he failed to qualify the 2008 Beijing Games. He was also named as Ahly's coach in 2009 but abruptly departed before playing any game due to personal reasons. “We preferred to hire Vingada due to his good Knowledge of the Egyptian and African football'' Megahed added. Shehata was sacked after reigning champions Egypt failed to qualify for the 2012 African Cup of Nations following a goalless draw at home to South Africa in June. The seven-time African champions lie at the bottom of Group C with two points from four games. They will face Sierra Leone and Niger in two meaningless matches.
