Prime Minister Essam Sharaf has released a statement condemning the clashes that erupted today between Coptic protesters and security forces and urged Egyptains to remain united. Sharaf, who released the statement on his official Facebook page, said that the clashes currently taking place in front of Maspero are not between Muslims and Christians but rather attempts to create chaos in the country and ignite sectarian tension. These clashes, Sharaf added, do not fit the children of a nation who were, and will remain, united against these extremist “vandalising forces," he said. “The enforcement of law on everyone is the best solution to all of Egypt's problems,” Sharaf wrote, before urging the Egyptians to stay united. “I ask all the children of this nation who care about its future not to respond to these calls for sectarian divisions, because its a fire that will burn all and not leave anyone out.”
