Fresh graduates promised employment at Supreme Council of Antiquities
SCA secretary general placates fresh graduates who had been protesting outside archaeological sites demanding jobs
Published in Ahram Online on 05 - 10 - 2011

Following several meetings with temporary staff at the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) and its top officials, SCA secretary general Mostafa Amine today met fresh graduates of the Faculty of Archaeology and restoration institutes.
During the meeting, Amine promised to appoint 850 of them who submitted employment requests last July. He told them that in two weeks the SCA will take all the required procedures to appoint them, especially as the SCA had succeeded in securing the funds required to appoint them. This first phase, Amine told the Ahram Online, will be followed by second, third and fourth phases in an attempt to appoint the fresh graduates according to a scheduled timetable.
With this third meeting Amine has solved the third and last obstacle that he might face during his tenure because temporary employees and fresh graduates had been protesting for the last four months in front of several archaeological sites asking for employment among the SCA's fulltime workforce. Such protests had led to the resignation of three previous secretary generals.
After solving these administrative problems Amine is facing another challenge to find sufficient funds to resume restoration works put on hold since the Egyptian Revolution, as well as construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum overlooking the Giza plateau, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and the development of archaeological sites in Egypt.
