Egypt's automotive market drops by 24.8 per cent in August, year-on-year

Automotive sales show declines in all areas year-on-year; one of the deepest being 34.7 year-long sales compared to last year, although passenger car sales in August 2011 only saw an 11.5 per cent decline since July 2011
Egypt's automotive market dropped by 24.8 per cent with only 16,396 vehicles sold in the month of August 2011 down from 21,813 vehicles sold in August 2010, according to the Automotive Marketing and Information Council (AMIC).
Passenger cars performed relatively better than the overall market, dropping by 22.4 per cent year-on-year to reach 12,626 cars sold in August 2011 against 16,281 cars sold in August 2010 (and dropping by 11.5 per cent m-o-m compared to July 2011).
Bus and truck sales dropped by 32.1 per cent and 31.8 per cent year-on-year, respectively, at 1,034 buses and 2,736 trucks sold in August 2011.
Egypt's total automotive sales for the entire year fell by 33.0 per cent; only selling 111,108 vehicles up until August 2011 versus 165,831 vehicles sold in the same period last year.
Passenger sales saw a deeper decline than the overall automotive sales at 34.4 per cent year-on-year, selling only 83,700 cars until August 2011 as opposed to 127,744 until August 2010.
Bus sales saw a 34.7 per cent decline and the not-as-deep truck sales dipped only 25.3 per cent, slightly up-skewing the deep year-on-year declines. Sales of buses were at 7,865 and 19,444 for trucks until August 2011.
