The Egyptian film Hawi has been selected among the competing films in the official competition of the third edition of the Baghdad film festival (3 October- 6 October). Hawi, directed by the independent filmmaker Ibrahim El Batout, revolves around different individuals in Alexandria, who are loosely connected to one another. Its title is derived from a song by the local band Masar Egbary, whose members appear in the film as themselves. The film has won the prize for best Arab film at last year's Doha Tribeca film festival.
