Employees in the Egyptian State TV and Radio headquarters in Maspero have staged a sit-in on the main street in front of the building, protesting against the new minister of information Employees at the Maspero Building, home of state TV and radio, announced they are starting an open sit-in until a new wages system agreed upon earlier is implemented. “We have been protesting in the street since 12:30pm this afternoon against (Minister of Information) Osama Heikal, and we're demanding the implementation of the new wages system [agreed upon earlier],” said Wagdy Abdel Aziz, a TV editor and translator, protesting in front of Maspero. The employees are rejecting the decision made by Heikal, the new minister of information, to cancel the new wages system drafted under the command of General Tarek El-Mahdi prior to Heikal's appointment. On Friday, state radio announced that the new wages list would be declared at the beginning of the week. However, it was confirmed today, Sunday, that the new wages system was halted. During the sit-in an unidentified car broke into the blocked off area and drove into the protest, causing mild injuries to four protesters. A large number of security vehicles surrounded the protest area, lining up along the Corniche and around the Maspero Building.
