Thousands march from Egypt's Tahrir Square to military council HQ on Friday night A demonstration against the ruling military council in Cairo is forcefully stopped by the army in Abbasyia
Thousands marched late Friday evening from Tahrir Square, where a two-week long sit-in is ongoing, to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) headquarters objecting that the demands of the sit-in are still left unmet. The military and the military police blocked the main entrances to the SCAF headquarters in Abbasyia district and clashed with demonstrators near El-Nour Mosque. Residents of Abbasyia also clashed with demonstrators. Similar marches have been staged in Alexandria, Suez and Luxor. Clashes erupted between the military and demonstrators in all three governorates. A repeat march from Tahrir Square to the SCAF headquarters is planned for Saturday at 4pm. SCAF released a statement condeming the demonstrators and finger pointing to the 6 April Movement which was described as serving foreign agendas and seeking to create strife between the people and the army. The 6 April Movement denied involvement in the protest. Several groups released a statement condemning SCAF's accusations.
