'Dead people will not vote in upcoming elections' says Minister
Minister Maged Othman says multiple government ministries are working to draw up new voting rosters, free of the old regime's dirty tricks

Egypt's upcoming parliamentary elections will not include votes by deceased Egyptians, says Maged Othman, minister of communication and information technology.
The votes by dead people were a common phenomenon during the era of ousted president Mubarak, whose followers used the technique to inflate support numbers for his National Democratic Party.
Speaking during a visit to Washington, Othman added that the ministry is collaborating with the ministry of interior, the ministry of administrative development and the armed forces to get an accurate list of living voters, rather than relying on those old lists prepared by the former regime.
Othman also revealed that the ministry has already finalized the database of National ID numbers, which Egyptians will use to vote in the upcoming elections.
The minister said that he will meet with the Egyptian community in the US during his visit there to discuss the developments taking place in Egypt after the January 25 Revolution as well as preparations underway for the parliamentary elections and the possibility of allowing Egyptians living abroad to vote. He will also discuss predicted obstacles to successful upcoming elections.
