Egyptian minister disgruntled at not being searched at Cairo Airport Gouda Abdel-Khalek, minister of social solidarity and internal trade, expresses his concern that he wasn't searched before flying out of Cairo Airport
Gouda Abdel-Khalek, Egypt's minister of social solidarity and internal trade, has spoken out against security measures at Cairo Airport after he was not searched at the newly built Terminal 3. Abdel-Khalek phoned Minister of Interior Mansour El-Essawi to inform him that his luggage was not inspected before taking his flight to Portugal. El-Essawy, who has been frequently subjected to criticism for his inability to make the police's presence tangible on the streets, reported the incident to Major Mohamed Anwar, head of airport security. Eventually, it turned out that passengers are searched by customs at a latter stage of the airport procedures. Officials said all passengers must be searched without exceptions or special treatment to high-profile officials or VIPs.
