CAF rejects Tunisian appeal against $50K fine but no ban

The Confederation of African Football has rejected an appeal by Tunisia against a $50,000 fine for violent conduct by its players at the African Cup of Nations.
However, Tunisia was not banned from the next edition of the continental championship after CAF said Tuesday that the Tunisian Football Federation made "a formal apology" for accusing the African soccer body of bias.
The case relates to an African Cup quarterfinal match on Jan. 31, when a disputed penalty helped host Equatorial Guinea eliminate Tunisia.
Furious Tunisia players aimed punches and kicks at the referee at the end of the game and Tunisian officials accused CAF of bias against it for the contentious decision.
CAF demanded Tunisia apologize by March 31 for making that accusation, or face being banned from the 2017 African Cup.
