Ahly's Gedo ready for African Champions League opener Eight time African champions Ahly will meet Rwandan team A.P.R in mid-March in the first round of 32
Ahly forward Mohamed Nagy 'Gedo' is ready for the CAF Champions League opener. The Cairo giants will visit Rwandan minnows A.P.R mid March for the first leg of the competition's round of 32. "The international attacker is now medically ready for matches," Ahly doctor Khaled Mahmoud was quoted as saying on the club's official website. The 30-year-old player returned to training last Wednesday for the first time in nine months after recovering from a longstanding injury, having undergone knee surgery in May. Gedo was supposed to be back in action after only six months but had to go through a longer rehabilitation program in Germany, with pain in his knee lasting longer than expected. Having beaten Mozambique's Liga Muçulmana 2-1 on aggregate in the Champions League preliminaries, Rwandan league holders A.P.R will be facing an arduous mission against Egyptian champions Ahly. Under the leadership of Spanish coach Juan Carlos, eight-time African champions Ahly are hoping that midfield duo Abdallah El-Saied and Hossam Ghaly will be fit in time to take part in the away leg. The return of Gedo comes ahead of the league resumption next month and amid the absence of Ahly striker Amr Gamal, who's still nursing a major knee injury.
