Algeria's ES Setif finished fifth at the Club World Cup after beating Asian champions Western Sydney Wanderers 5-4 on penalties following an exciting 2-2 draw on Wednesday. Romeo Castelen put Western Wanderers ahead after five minutes when he rifled a powerful shot from the edge of the area that left the keeper with no chance. Daniel Mullen put a cross into his own on 50 minutes to help Setif restore parity and the Algerians went ahead when Abdelmalek Ziaya blasted home from inside the area seven minutes later. The match looked as though it was heading Setfi's way but Vitor Saba's superb curling free-kick one minute from time sent the game to penalty shootout. Setif wasted three spot-kicks and Western Sydney squandered four, including an effort from goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis which would have been a winner for the Australians. Nigerian midfielder Seyi Adeleke skewed his effort high over and Toufik Zerara made the most of his miss with an unstoppable shot that went into the top corner to give Setif a morale-boosting victory in their first Club World Cup appearance. African Champions League winners Setif opened their campaign with a surprise 1-0 loss to New Zealand's part-timers Auckland City while Western Sydney lost 3-1 to Mexico's Cruz Azul.
