Egypt's exports to Nile Basin countries up 15% in 2013: CAPMAS Sudan is the largest importer of Egyptian goods from the group of nine African nations, while Kenya is the largest exporter to Egypt
The value of Egypt's exports to Nile Basin countries rose by 15 percent in 2013, state-run statistics agency CAPMAS revealed on Sunday. Exports from Egypt to Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Congo, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Eritrea were worth LE7.22 billion (1$ billion) in 2013, up from LE6.28 billion ($880 million). Exports to these countries accounted for 3.7 percent of Egypt's exports in 2013, up from 3.4 percent in 2012. Meanwhile, Egypt's imports from Nile Basin nations totaled LE2.96 billion ($410 million), compared to LE2.97 billion in the previous year. Sudan was the largest importer of Egyptian products out of the block, its imports – mainly iron and plastic products – accounting for some 51 percent of Egypt's exports to the countries. Egypt's imports from Sudan consisted mainly of grains, oleaginous fruits, medicinal plants, fodder and food industry waste. Kenya was the second largest importer of Egyptian goods, namely sugar and sugar confectionery, as well as paper and paper crafts, for a total value of LE1.67 billion ($230 million). Kenya was also the largest exporter to Egypt, accounting for some 63 percent of the block's exports to Egypt, including coffee, tea, spices and tobacco. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/111879.aspx
