Egyptian exports to Nile Basin countries have risen by almost a quarter in 2010 compared to the year before, according to a report issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics on Tuesday. Egyptian exports to Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Congo, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi rose by 24.4 percent from LE4.456 billion in 2009 to LE5.542 billion in 2010. Sudan alone received more than half of Egypt's exports to Nile Basin countries in 2009 and 2010. Most these exports were iron and sugar products. Of all Nile Basin countries, Kenya was Egypt's second largest importer in 2009 and 2010, accounting for almost a quarter of Egypt's exports to Nile Basin countries. These exports mainly comprised paper, cardboard, and sugar products. Egyptian imports from Nile Basin countries rose from LE1.507 billion in 2009 to LE1.521 billion in 2009, registering an increase of 0.9 percent. More than 70 percent of Egypt's imports from Nile Basin countries came from Kenya. The main product imported from Kenya was tea.
