Cameroon thump Ivory Coast 4-1 to move top in CAN qualifiers Cameroon secure a stunning home victory over Ivory Coast in their second African qualifying game
Cameroon crushed fellow World Cup finalists Ivory Coast 4-1 in an enthralling affair in Yaoundé to move top of Group D in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers on Wednesday. The hosts went ahead after just 15 minutes through Lyon striker Clinton Njie before Manchester City star Yaya Toure levelled the scoring 10 minutes later. But the Indomitable Lions went to the locker room 2-1 up, thanks to a goal from Vincent Aboubakar. Aboubakar then completed his personal brace and netted his side's third nine minutes into the second half, before N'jie bagged a brilliant goal to make it four for Cameroon. The victory took Cameroon, who bowed out of the World Cup group stage this summer, to the top top of Group D on six points following their 2-0 away win at DR Congo last weekend. Ivory Coast slipped to third place with a single win after squeezing out a 2-1 home victory over outsiders Sierra Leone. In the other Group D match, DR Congo claimed a 2-0 victory at Sierra Leone, thanks to second-half goals from Firmin Mubele Ndombe and Bokala. Congo climbed to second spot with three points, on level with Ivory Coast whose thumping defeat left them third with inferior goal difference.
