An Egyptian conscript was shot dead by unidentified assailants while securing the borders in North Sinai's Rafah, according to Aswat Masriya. The conscript died of gunshot wounds to the chest. Reports on Aswat Masriya say that the assailants escaped after an exchange of fire with security forces. Attacks against security personnel and installations spiked following the ouster of former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last July. The Al-Qaeda-inspired Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis group has claimed responsibility for most of the major attacks that took place in the restive Sinai Peninsula, Nile Delta cities and the capital. Smaller attacks targeting low-ranking security personnel have also emerged in recent months. Interim authorities blame Morsi supporters and allies for the wave of violence. Meanwhile, Egyptians are casting their ballots in the final day of the Egyptian presidential elections.
