IN PICTURES: World footballers go bananas to say #NoToRacism Twitter campaign of footballers eating bananas is in support of Daniel Alves, target of a racist incident on Sunday
Brazil defender Dani Alves turned heads on Sunday during Barcelona's 3-2 win against Villarreal in La Liga when he picked up a banana a fan had thrown at him as he took a corner, peeled it and took a bite. Throwing a banana has happened many times lately as a racist gesture, but the 32-year-old player sparked a new trend.## Early Tuesday, many footballers including Ivorian Yaya Toure, Brazilian Neymar and Egyptian Ahmed Hassan united under one hashtag, NoToRacism.## Alves' former teammate Toure has often been a target for racist and abusive chants, including the famous monkey chants in CSKA Moscow and FC Porto. "The world's most capped player Ahmed Hassan says no to racism to support Dani Alves," the former Egypt, Ahly and Zamalek midfielder Ahmed Hassan posted on his Twitter account. The internet campaign is still on, with football fans around the word showing support to Alvis in an effort to stop racism in football. ## ## ## ## ## (For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online Sports on Twitter at@AO_Sportsand on Facebook atAhramOnlineSports.) http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/100121.aspx
