KAFR EL-SHEIKH, Egypt: The Libyan Coast Guard in Tripoli today detained an Egyptian fishing boat carrying 17 fishermen, reported Ahmed Abdouh Nassar, the head of the Fisherman Care Association in Borg Megazal. The Coast Guard accuses the fishermen of wandering into Libyan territorial waters. “The boat began its journey one week ago,” Nasser said. “It was heading to Malta island and the Libyan Coast Guard forced the boat to enter Libyan waters where it was detained.” “The Coast Guard detained another two Tunisian and Italian boats,” Nasser continued. “The others were released, but the Egyptian boat remains held.” “The boat was far from Libyan waters but the coast guard forced them to enter,” the captain of the Egyptian ship reportedly told Nasser.
