CAIRO: Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr has said the unprecedented turnout in the parliamentary election's first phase reflects the insistence of Egyptians' on participating in political life. Amr said Egypt celebrates Human Rights Day differently after the January 25 Revolution, which supports the principles of human rights. A top Egyptian diplomat said Egypt intends to support the International Human Rights Organization, underlining Egypt's historic role in formulating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. Amr stressed the necessity for supporting Palestinian rights and condemning violations committed by Israel. He also called for confronting the West's negative feelings against Islam and the discrimination exercised against Muslims. He demanded developed countries to support other nations' development processes, adding that Egypt, as head of the Non-Aligned Movement, works to put such issues at the top of the international community's priority list. The UN General Assembly adopted the declaration, which includes the main principles of human and basic rights, in December 1948. It is considered the main reference for different agreements concluded on different political, economic and social rights.
