President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbass expressed his appreciation for Egypt's historic role to support Palestinian rights and establish their independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967. Abbass briefed the Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr on the efforts exerted by Palestinians in the UN to gain international recognition of statehood for Palestine. Amr discussed steps taken by Egypt to support the current Palestinian efforts in the UN on the bilateral and international levels, especially through the Non-Aligned Movement Egypt took its presidency in the current term. Amr held meetings with a number of foreign ministers of member states of the UN and the director general of the UN. He stressed the Arab's support for Palestine's quest to gain the recognition of statehood and stressed the necessity of providing Palestinians with legal rights they deserve by recognizing the Palestinian state. Amr added it is the time to provide freedom to Palestinians and to remove the Israeli occupation from Palestinian territories.
