CAIRO: The National Council for Human Rights said it received several complaints of infractions during elections, including continued campaigning during the voting process, bribery, violent clashes outside polling stations and dissemination of false information regarding the electoral process, most notably by supporters of a candidate in Kafr el-Sheikh. The Council said in a statement, a court ruling issued by the High Administrative Court nullifying results in Cairo's first electoral district complies with international standards for free and fair elections, adding that the application of the law is the surest way to safeguard the elections' validity. They also said they received 56 complaints via phone and SMS on the first day of runoff elections from the governorates of Cairo, Alexandria, Kafr el-Sheikh, Red Sea, Asyut and Luxor. These complaints indicate that the Supreme Electoral Committee has not resolved all the problems and issues witnessed during the first phase, especially campaigning on election day and using religious slogans in campaigns.
